Writings
Buster is a welder by trade and has recently written a book about his exploits around the the world entitled “The Life and Times of a Hairy-Arsed Welder.” As he was married to an English woman for 27 years, he thus left Cobh to live in Maidstone, England and then lived in Holland. From there he worked in remote areas, such as Somalia and Bangladesh and his book shares stories of his work experiences around the world and basically shows ‘how not to live your life!’
Music always played a big part in his life, so on his return to Cobh, he resumed playing the guitar and singing in the local pubs. William, better known as Buster, spares himself no blushes, in a searingly honest account of his life and times.

I decided to write this book while I was waiting for my sister to come out from the doctor. As I looked around at the reading material in the doctor's waiting room, I saw nothing but glossy magazines featuring film stars and models etc. I thought to myself, all this bullshit and they get a fortune for being privileged.
So I decided to write a book about a hairy-arsed Welder...like myself! If the glamour people can do it, so can I! The problem is, I've never attempted anything like this before. I feel I have done so much with my life; I have to take a shot at it. My beloved sisters keep telling me "It's no good sharing stories with people in the pub, or elsewhere, unless it's written down, it's forgotten." The palest of ink is better than the best of memories.

If you know Billy Buster even just a little, you can hear him, with his delightful story telling voice throughout the pages of his book. You may hear him singing in the sweet and happy parts. And you may imagine his serious face as you read the difficult parts. They're all here in the book that bears reading, not just because it's in Billy's voice, but because he tells the story of many who labor hard for a living. The good news is the pages tell you that these men, these hairy arsed welders, have a spirit of resilience, and a deep care for those they share their hearts with. This book was a grateful read for me as I take up residence in a town with a shipyard. Now I have a greater appreciation for those who are a part of building its history. Buster's story is one that needed telling, one that many should read.

I finished your book this morning, often in tears. With a kind heart, a good work ethic and great affection and caring for friends and loved ones, you traveled the world with so much pain in your heart. I was so sad about that. I am so glad you are in a better frame of mind now. Though it has got to be really hard, to remember and regret, without the alcohol to dull the pain. I have memories that shame me. All we can do is make new memories. And I am so glad you have a friend like Jules with a heart of gold.
